FAQs About Our Inn
How do I make a Reservation?
Book online 24/7 through our secure reservation system at aurorastaplesinn.com, or call us directly at 651-351-1187 (or toll-free at 800-580-3092). We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and cash. Checks are not accepted. You can also book through a third party such as Airbnb but keep in mind there will not be any discounts and cancellations or refunds will be harder to access with a 3rd party booking site.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made 10 or more days before your arrival date will receive a full refund. If you cancel 9 days or fewer of your arrival, you are responsible for the full room charge.
Are there minimum stay requirements?
No. But we encourage to book two or more nights during the week to utilize a discount of 10% off.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes! Gift certificates make a wonderful present for anniversaries, birthdays, or any special occasion. Purchase them through our online portal or by calling us directly at 651-351-1187. If you purchase it online you will get an online version that you can print out. If you want a prettier version, we suggest calling us directly and we will mail it to you. If you are live in Minnesota, it should arrive in two business days.
What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in time is any-time after 4 p.m. We are doing Self-Check ins so a couple days before your scheduled reservation date you will receive an email / message and/or text message with detailed instructions to ensure check-in is seamless. Check-out time is by 11 a.m. We don’t allow early check-ins or later check-outs.
Is there parking available?
Yes! We have a private parking lot on the north side of the inn, plus additional off -street parking. Since we are just two blocks away from historic downtown Stillwater, many guests enjoy leaving their car hear and walking to shops and restaurants.
Is there a Taxi Service or Ride service in Stillwater?
Yes! Stillwater Taxi Service or Yarp Rides (Kristina Yarp) provides airport transportation or local rides; Call her at 651-212-5600.
What Rooms do you offer?
1. The Peacock Room-A Queen bed, jetted tub / shower, a gas fireplace and a Roku TV.
2. The Giverny Room-Monet inspired with a king bed, double whirlpool tub for two (No stand up shower), a gas fireplace and a Roku TV .
3. The St. Croix Suite-Our largest room in the main house; a king bed, a double sided fireplace, jetted tub, shower, king be, original furniture from Aurora Staples and a Roku TV.
4. The Riverview Suite-Four-season porch, jetted tub / shower, a gas fireplace and a Roku TV.
5. The Carriage House– The largest room (A private space separate from the main house), with a three-sided gas fireplace, large double whirlpool tub, walk-in shower, a king bed and Cable TV.
6. The Gallery Room-For the single traveler; a full bed, roku tv, small bathroom with a shower and no gas fireplace (Not listed on the website, call to inquire).
What amenities are standard in every room?
Private bathrooms (no shared bathrooms), jetted tubs / showers, gas fireplaces in all rooms except the Gallery room, TVs in all the rooms, all beds are dressed in ultra-soft Comphy brand sheets (If you like them, there is a QR code in the room to purchase them)…soft robes from Comphy brand are also in the rooms.
Can I buy the Comphy sheets I slept on or the soft robes?
Absolutely! So many guests falling love with our Comphy sheets that we decided to make them available for purchase. Visit the Comphy sheets page on our website for details or scan the QR code in your guest room to learn more about purchasing them.
How many guests can stay in a room?
2 guests maximum per fire code regulations. No additional guests in the rooms.
What if I need fresh towels or have an issue during my stay?
You will be given Rachelle’s contact info such as her cell phone number and can call or text her before 10 pm to get towels and contact her anytime if there is an emergency. Rachelle lives on the property and easy to reach if needed.
Can I rent the entire Inn?
Yes! The entire Inn is available for exclusive use- a wonderful option for group celebrations or special occasions, such as, Baby Showers, Girl’s Night Out, Book Clubs, Wedding parties and more. Visit our “Rent the Whole Inn” page or contact us to discuss availability and pricing.
Do you serve breakfast at the Inn?
Breakfast is no longer served at the inn but we have transitioned to a model where breakfast is enjoyed at Stillwater’s finest local restaurants rather than served in-house. With each night of your stay, you’ll receive a gift-card or a voucher to a nearby breakfast spot.
Which Restaurants will I receive a gift-card for?
- Monday & Tuesday: A Gift-card to Oasis Café or Mon Petit Cher (A $30 value per night)
- Wednesday-Sunday: A breakfast voucher to the Historic Lowell Inn located two blocks away from Aurora Staples Inn. Choose from a Special Menu for our Guests. *Redeemable for two people
Are there add-ons or in-room treats available?
Yes! We offer lovely add-ons for an additional fee, including:
- Red or white wine from local St. Croix Vineyards
- Handmade chocolate covered strawberries or chocolate covered raspberries stuffed with blueberries.

Is the Inn Smoke Free?
Yes – Aurora Staples Inn is a 100% SMOKE-FREE INSIDE THE PROPERTY. Smoking of any kind (including e-cigarettes and vaping) are NOT permitted in guest rooms! There is a designated area for smokers outside. Note: There will be a $750 fee will be assessed for any violation, and we reserve the right to ask guests to leave immediately. Additional cleaning fees may apply. This policy aligns with Minnesota State Law.
Are candles allowed in rooms?
No – for the safety and security or all guests, open flames such as candles are not permitted, as required by law and fire code. Every room does have a beautiful gas fireplace to set a romantic ambiance! *battery operated candles are allowed.
Can I use Bath Bombs in the Jetted Tubs?
Please do not use bath bombs in our jetted-tubs; They can cause damage to the jets and plumbing. We want to keep these lovely tubs n great condition for every guest. We do provide bath scents though.
Are you pet friendly?
No! For safety, comfort, and convenience of all guests, we are unable to allow pets at the Inn. We hope you understand, and we look forward to welcoming you for a truly relaxing escape.
Can I bring children?
We are primarily a romantic retreat for adults, and all rooms are limited to two guests by fire code. Our inn is also not baby-proof. Please contact us directly to discuss bringing children.
Can I have friends or family visit me at the inn?
Rooms and house use are reserved for registered guests only. To protect the privacy and comfort of everyone staying with us, we kindly ask that you not bring in outside visitors. If you’d like to show friends or family the Inn, we’re happy to arrange a tour of the common areas with advance notice.
Are rose petals allowed in the room?
No. We ask that guests please refrain from using rose petals, as they stain linens and surfaces and require significant extra cleaning. Fake Rose petals are ok from Michaels etc.
Do I need to remove my shoes inside the Inn?
Yes, please take your shoes and boots off upon arriving to keep the historic floors in beautiful condition. The wood floors of the house are original (over 134 years old). We also provide disposable shoe coverings.
Can I host an event or small wedding at the inn?
We don’t offer weddings at this time. Please call about events.
Can our group book the whole inn exclusively?
Yes – renting the entire inn is a popular option for celebrations and retreats. With all five rooms exclusively for your party, it becomes a truly private and relaxing or romantic getaway. Call us for more details 651-351-1187.
